About

The dynamic duo Shyne (formerly known as Amity) met each other unexpectedly at a performance in 2014 and have been singing together since then. Together, they have created a unique sound that compliments each other’s style. The duo sings a mixture of everything from Reggae, R&B, Soul, Pop and Hawaiian, all infused as one. Individually, they are vocally strong, but together Shyne emulates a perfect sound unlike any other local artist to come out of Hawai’i.

Jasmin Nicole Idica started singing at the tender age of 6. She could barely read and articulate words when she started voice lessons at the Performing Artists Academy, where her talent was nurtured and was given the opportunity to share her gift of music. Her love and passion for music expanded when she started learning to play various instruments, such as the drums, piano, bass, and guitar, making this young lady a versatile artist.

At nine years old, she was one of the youngest performers to share the stage with the Legendary Don Ho until his passing. She has won numerous singing contests both locally and nationally, belting out songs from her favorite artists, like Whitney Houston and Mariah Carey. She was the lead singer for the JP Band who was the 2010 Bandchamp Grand Champions. Their EP album was later nominated for a Na Hoku Hanohano Award. She was also the lead singer of the Sweet Keyz Band who performed regularly at the Shack Waikiki and Tiki’s Bar & Grill.

Jasmin Nicole has a passion for R&B and soul music. Some of her musical influences include Lauryn Hill, India Arie, and Beyonce. Music is her outlet to express herself and considers it as food for her soul. Songwriting has unlocked her creative side to manifest original music that she hopes will soon be shared. She considers it a blessing to be one half of the girl duo, Shyne, and looks forward to a long successful music career.

Jasmine Mahealani Kaleikaumaka Sniffen-Carson started singing at the age of nine years old. Every Wednesday nights, she’d attend church service and would shine on stage alongside her grandfather. There were also many hours spent on practicing and learning how to play the ukulele. This is what helped build a solid foundation for Jasmine and her musicianship. Having her first Ukulele at the age of ten, Jasmine took it everywhere she went, from Kanikapila Sessions with the family, and even while attending school. No matter where Jasmine went, that ukulele was always by her my side. At the age of thirteen Jasmine got her first guitar and decided to learn on her own how to play. After learning, she quickly began creating melodies and writing lyrics based on her surroundings. She then picked up on piano.

Jasmine’s passion for singing became more dominant when her grandmother purchased a karaoke machine for her granddaughter. She would then spend days in her bedroom singing songs like Hanalei Moon, Moloka`I Slide, Akaka Falls, and more… repeating these songs over and over again. Jasmine then started to realize that singing was one her greatest passions. These types of songs inspired her to create a singing style that is distinct to her voice. As the years went by, she immersed herself in everything that she could to get exposure as a vocalist, from local talent shows, fairs, carnivals, birthday parties, and weddings. Anything that would increase her ability and knowledge in singing, Jasmine did.

During middle and high school, Jasmine, two of her cousins, and a few other relatives started a band (Melenani) and began gigging all over town. After high school, Jasmine left to attend a private Christian college (NHCC) in Eugene, Oregon and studied Creative Arts emphasizing in vocals and singing. Here, she was exposed to many different genres and artists of her likes. Jasmine somehow found a way to use those styles and incorporate it into the island sound.

In 2013 Jasmine moved home to Hawai`i, and a year later met her soul singing sister Jasmin Nicole. Together they have created a sound that compliments each other’s style and blending them into the beautiful duo of Shyne.
